I see that you offer enrollment for students TK - 6th grade. Are all ages grouped together?

No, learners will be grouped by age level. These cohorts will remain together throughout the learning day as they rotate through subjects.

How big is each cohort?

We prioritize small learning cohorts as we find they allow for a better learning environment and more teacher/student interaction. Our cohorts usually range from 12-18 students, depending on age and classroom size.

Will my child pack a lunch to attend Root & Wonder Academy?

Yes, because our program day is 9:00am - 2:00pm, your child will pack a peanut-free lunch to eat with their friends. We also suggest they pack a snack that they can enjoy during their first break between rotations. Children should also bring a water bottle each Friday.

Will my child have recess or playtime as part of their program day?

Yes! We have a period of teacher-supervised outdoor playtime incorporated into our learning day. Our site features an enclosed playground as well as a spacious field.

Will my child be bringing completed work home?

Because Root & Wonder Academy is based largely on hands-on learning experiences, not all classes will have completed work to bring home each week (although all will sometimes). Parents will receive a monthly email newsletter containing photos of the activities their children have been participating in (parents can opt their child out of having their photos appear in the newsletter if they wish).

Can I sign my child up for only one or two classes?

At this time, Root & Wonder Academy is offered only as a full day program. This allows for each cohort to remain together during a cohesive day.

What if the curriculum I’m using at home is completely different from what you are using at Root & Wonder Academy?

That is perfectly alright! In fact, families at Root & Wonder will be using a variety of different curricula at home, and adhering to a variety of learning philosophies. Our center is designed to offer stand-alone learning experiences to enrich learners’ academic and social foundations.

Will I need to sign up to teach any classes?

Nope! We hire paid teachers to instruct your children so you can enjoy a much deserved day off. There are no volunteer requirements for parents.

Yes, we are partnered with Mission Vista Academy, Cabrillo Point Academy, and Springs Charter School. If you would like for us to partner with your charter school, please contact us.

I see that Root & Wonder offers lessons in science as part of your learning day. Do you teach evolution or creationism?

We believe that this topic is one that should be discussed between parents and children. The science curriculum we use (Elemental Science) does not discuss either evolution or creationism, but rather focuses on other aspects of science where children can engage in interactive lessons.

How much does Root & Wonder Academy cost?

For the 2025/2026 school year the cost of Root & Wonder Academy is $220 per month, with a one-time materials fee of $100 per student, to be paid with first month’s tuition.
